Your information, explained simply

This is the short version, written for students. Everything here is true; it is just said plainly. There is a longer, more detailed version as well.

We know almost nothing about you

We do not ask for your age, your date of birth, your school, your surname, your address or your phone number. We never have. The name on your profile can be a nickname — that is genuinely fine, and probably better.

If an adult pays for a subscription, the payment company asks them for a billing address. That is the adult's address, not yours, and it is needed because the country someone is in decides what tax we have to charge. The payment company keeps the full address. We only copy the country into our own records — just the country, like "GB" — because we have to tell our insurance company which countries our customers are in.

None of that is used for advertising, and none of it says anything about you.

What we do save

That is what makes your progress show up if you switch from your phone to a laptop, and it is what the readiness percentage is worked out from.

What you write stays on your device. When you type an answer to a long exam question, those words never leave the phone or computer you wrote them on. We save whether you got it right and how many marks you gave yourself — not what you actually wrote.

Signing out clears this device's account-linked work. This stops the next person using a shared phone, tablet or computer from seeing your answers or attaching them to another account. Progress that already synced will return when the account signs in again.

Who can see it

You can. So can whoever set up and pays for the account — usually a parent or a teacher. That is how the account works, and it is fair that you know it rather than find out later.

Nobody else. It does not go to your school. We do not sell it. We do not share it with advertisers or with anyone building profiles of young people. There are no adverts anywhere in this app, and nothing here follows you around other websites.

Your readiness score is educational profiling

If you switch it on, the app compares your scores, course coverage and how recent the evidence is, then recommends what to revise. This is called educational profiling, and it is why we ask rather than simply doing it. The calculation happens on your device and the readiness percentage is not stored in our database. It is not a prediction or official grade and it cannot change your access or price. It is visible to anyone who can use the adult account, so treat it as revision guidance rather than a judgement.

No cookies, and nobody watching

This app uses no cookies. None at all. Nothing follows you to other websites, there is no advertising, and there is nothing counting how long you spend here.

It does save things on your own device — that you are signed in, your reading settings, and the work you have done — because otherwise the app could not work. That stays on your phone or laptop. You can clear it whenever you like from your browser settings.

Videos only load when you choose

YouTube does not receive a request just because you open a study page. If you select Load video, your browser contacts Google/YouTube and sends information such as the page address, IP address and device or browser details. The player uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. You can always choose the written lesson instead.

The companies that help run the app

Some of these companies work internationally. Contracts, UK adequacy rules and approved transfer safeguards are used where information leaves the UK. The full notice explains this in more detail.

Some of the work behind the app is done with help from an AI assistant called Claude. It helps with writing the code, checking that things work properly, and working out what has gone wrong when something breaks. It is not part of the app. It does not mark your work, it does not decide what you see next, and nothing you do in the app is sent to it as you go. If we have to look into a problem, we may show it the records we need to understand that problem, and sometimes those records include things like an email address. The company behind it, Anthropic, has a contract with us and is not allowed to use your information for anything else, or to train its AI on it.

You can take it or delete it, whenever you want

In Your account there are two buttons:

Some payment, complaint, security-log and backup records can remain for limited legal or security periods after active progress is deleted. The full notice explains what can remain and why.

Why we keep it at all

Only to make the app work for you: to save your place, to show your progress on any device, and to know that your subscription is active. If the subscription ends, the progress is deleted a year later.

Two things you can switch on, or leave off

Neither of these is needed to use the app. Both start off. We ask you once, just after you sign in, and you can change your mind at any time in Your account. Saying no to both is a normal answer and the app works the same.

You agree to saving on each device separately. Signing in on a different phone or laptop does not switch it on there. Somebody using that device has to agree first. That is deliberate: the account belongs to the adult who pays, and without this rule their laptop could pull down your progress without anyone choosing it.

Before you agree, you should know this: anything you switch on can be seen by the adult who set up the account. It is their account. There is no part of the app that is hidden from them, and we would rather tell you now than let you find out later.

You can make these choices yourself. You do not need the account holder's permission to turn something on, or to turn it off again.

We warn you before anything is deleted

We do not keep your work forever. If your subscription ends, or if the account is not used for a long time, your saved progress is deleted.

We send an email a month before that happens, to the adult who made the account. It explains how to download a copy first, how to keep the progress, or how to delete everything straight away if you would rather.

Your account is not closed. Only the saved progress goes.

Accounts that are never used get closed

That is separate, and it is bigger. If nobody uses the account at all for two years, we close it and delete everything: the sign-in, the email address, the lot.

We email the adult who made the account a month before. Signing in during that month is enough to keep it. If there is a subscription running, the account is never closed this way.

Telling us how to make this better

There is a feedback form in the app. Use it if something is hard to read, hard to use, or wrong. You can also use it to suggest an idea.

You do not need to give your name. You do not need to give an email address either. Only give one if you want a reply.

Please do not write anything personal in it. We only need to know what the problem is. We keep what you send for a year after we decide what to do about it, and then it is deleted.

Nobody can read the feedback back through the app. Not other students, and not you. Only Chris can see it.

If something bothers you

If you are not happy with how your information is being used, say so. There is a complaint form in the app, or you can email hello@igcsesciencerevision.com. Either way a real person — Chris, who made this — will read it and reply, within 30 days at the very latest.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk. You do not need an adult's permission to do any of this, and you do not have to ask us first.

Who is responsible

Christopher Scargill, trading as IGCSE Science Revision, is responsible for deciding how the app uses information. The way to reach us is by email, at hello@igcsesciencerevision.com. We are on the UK regulator's public register, and our ICO registration number is ZC202280.
